Members of the Temple Sholom Sisterhood gathered for dinner, drinks and celebration at Calo Restaurant in Andersonville for the Annual Sisterhood Dinner on June 10. There’s nothing like Jewish women for lively conversation, and the buzz put a smile on my face the moment I walked in the room.
Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg gave an emotional presentation detailing her first-hand experiences with, as well as the history and current state of, Women of the Wall in Israel. I hope to speak with her soon in-depth and will share her insights and call for action in a future blog post.
Cyndi Solitro, our Sisterhood president, summed up the feeling of the event well when she spoke of, just four years ago, not knowing anyone in the room, and now having close ties to us all.
As I looked around the room, at every table was a woman who touched me in some way – working together at the Monday Meal, praying together at Shabbat services, dancing together at a Sisterhood Passover seder, or playing together (and being decisively trounced!) at Sisterhood-sponsored mah jong. It’s impossible to overstate how enriching Sisterhood has been in my life. These are women I might never have met, but now will never forget.
With a look back at the past year, and a rededication of leadership for the year to come, it was a room full of laughter, love and true sisterhood. And, gotta say – best food ever!
