Temple Sholom members spent a fun-filled family day at Starved Rock State Park on June 22nd! While the forecast called for rain, we lucked out and enjoyed nothing but sunshine. An intimate group of seven families got to know each other and their environment better on this fabulous, sun-soaked Sunday. Rabbi Conover led a wonderful hike around Starved Rock where we saw canyons, waterfalls, pelicans, and more. Besides learning about Starved Rock’s natural beauty, we were able to incorporate a service project to help preserve the park’s beauty. After a fun picnic lunch, our kids and parents participated in a clean-up project to help beautify the area. We were all amazed to witness the magnificent beauty that lies right outside our bustling city. Although there were many worn-out kids by the end of the afternoon, a fantastic time was had by all. Everyone returned home with new friends, a new appreciation for the natural resources right under our nose and a longing to return to Starved Rock next year for another great day filled with Judaism, nature and family fun!
