	Rabbi Aaron Mark Petuchowski is in his Bar Mitzvah (13th) year as spiritual leader of Temple Sholom, having previously served at Temple Sinai of Roslyn (Long Island, NY) for fourteen years. More... Less... He attended Indiana University, and received his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois. Ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in New York in 1983, in 2008 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his 25 years of service to the Jewish people through the rabbinate. Pastoral, scholarly and highly articulate, Rabbi Petuchowski is the son and great-grandson of rabbis. He is the co-editor (with his mother Dr. Elizabeth Petuchowski) of Studies in Modern Theology and Prayer, a volume of essays written by his late father, Dr. Jakob J. Petuchowski. Rabbi Petuchowski serves on HUC-JIR’s President’s Rabbinic Council, and is a member of the B’nai Yaakov Council of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati. A member of the national board of ARZA, he also serves on the rabbinic council of B’rit Tzedek v’Shalom. Active in various activities in the Lakeview community, Rabbi Petuchowski is particularly interested in interfaith relations and interdenominational programming with our Conservative and Orthodox neighbors. He is also proud of his involvement in Jewish – Muslim dialogue, and he has brought members of the Temple Sholom Family into such conversations. 	A lyric soprano, Cantor Aviva Katzman earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in voice performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. More... Less... After earning a Master's of Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College and being invested as a cantor in 1987, Cantor Katzman became the first female member of the Jewish clergy in Chicago. She has served on the national board of the American Conference of Cantors. She participated in the first cantors' cohort of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, and is active in the Institute's Hevraya studies. She has been an annual co-officiant of the Anti-Defamation League's African-American Jewish Freedom Seder since its inception. She treasures the opportunity to cultivate musically gifted congregants of all ages, particularly when their gifts were previously undisclosed. Cantor Katzman is married to Dr. Morris Mauer, and is the incredibly proud mother of Ezra, Zachary, and Alec (top of their classes many years ago in Temple Sholom's Gan Shalom). 	Ordained in 2004 by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, Rabbi Tachman earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Michigan State University. More... Less... He went on to earn a Master's of Social Work at the University of Michigan and a Certificate in Jewish Communal Service and Judaic Studies from the Sol Drachler Program in Jewish Communal Leadership at the University of Michigan. Among his various roles at Temple Sholom, Rabbi Tachman especially enjoys serving as the liaison to the Gan Shalom Pre-School, the Temple Brotherhood, Young Couples, the Young Adult (20's and 30's) community and the Young Adult sponsored Monday Meal. Rabbi Tachman also serves on the Associates Division Executive Committee of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, is a rabbinic liaison to the Sidney N. 	Rabbi Conover grew up in St. Louis, Missouri at Congregation Shaare Emeth and earned a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. More... After working as a producer of On-Air Promotions for PBS-Wisconsin, her love of the Jewish people and learning Jewish texts as well as a strong commitment to social justice led her to rabbinical school. During her time at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Conover received several prizes including the Rabbi Jason Huebsch Memorial Prize for Outstanding Work in Community Service, The Stuart and Antoinette Matlins Prize in Liturgy and The Rabbi Malcolm Stern Memorial Prize (awarded for contributing the most to the HUC-JIR New York Campus). Prior to joining the Temple Sholom staff in 2007, Rabbi Conover served as Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Schaarai Zedek in Tampa, Florida for three years. Her work encompassed a wide-range of rabbinic responsibilities including officiating at life cycle events, teaching, preaching and counseling as well as overseeing the synagogue’s Youth Program, Young Adult Program, Social Justice and Advocacy Program, and Caring Community. Rabbi Conover’s programmatic responsibilities at Temple Sholom include serving as a rabbinic liaison to our Adult Education Program and Sisterhood and overseeing our Outreach programming. Rabbi Conover also serves on the Social Justice Committee of the Women’s Rabbinic Network. She lives in Chicago with her husband Damien. 	Resident Scholar Rabbi Frederick C. Schwartz was the senior rabbi of Temple Sholom from 1974 to 1997. Rabbi Schwartz has published in Jewish periodicals on such topics as revelation, law, anti-Semitism, history, Martin Buber and education. He is co-editor of Essays in Honor of Dr. Freehof, a volume devoted to writings of Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof of Pittsburgh, with whom Rabbi Schwartz trained.

Rabbi Sandmel, Director of Lifelong Learning at Temple Sholom, is also Crown-Ryan Professor of Jewish Studies at the Catholic Theological Union. He served at the Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies in Baltimore where he coordinated the publication “Dabru Emet: A Jewish Statement on Christians and Christianity”. He is the co-editor of Christianity in Jewish Terms and Irreconcilable Differences? A Learning Resource for Jews and Christians. Rimma Khodosh, Gan Shalom Early Childhood Center Director, holds an early childhood degree from Kiev State Pedagogical Institute in her native Ukraine, and degrees from the University of California- Los Angeles and Spertus College of Judaic Studies in Chicago. More... Less... She joined the Temple Staff as a nursery school teacher in November of 1982. She became the director of Gan Shalom in 1985. Rimma plays the accordion and enjoys teaching music to young children. 	Lisa (Lieberman) Kaplan, Membership and Programming Director, grew up as a member of Temple Sholom. More... Less... While living in Philadelphia for four years, she was the Income Development Manager at the American Cancer Society in Philadelphia, and prior to that was a Manager at Chicago Event Management – organizers of the Chicago Marathon.
