10th Annual Olam HaMitzvot (A World of Mitzvot)

Once a year, Temple Sholom’s Social Action committee organizes a Temple-wide “Mitzvah Day” known as Olam Ha Mitzvot. Volunteer your time on Sunday, April 6th and join others in our community in the pursuit of Tikkun Olam (healing the world).

9:00 a.m. Olam HaMitzvot Begins Locks of Love, Blood Drive and Tot-friendly projects
11:45 a.m. Assembly in Bettie Port Hall Religious School students will present their class projects
Parents and other adults are invited to attend

12:15 p.m. Lunch & guest speaker Sister Mary Ellen Coombe Lunch is offered at no cost, but please register so we are sure to order enough food
1:00 p.m. Afternoon Projects
Bins are in Bettie Port Hall
Locations given upon registration. Carpooling available from Temple Sholom.

9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Blood Drive Donate blood – save a life, save the world. Ages 18 and up
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.* Locks of Love Donate 5 to 10 inches of hair to make wigs for children with hair loss – due to alopecia, chemotherapy, etc.
* Religious School students must make appointments before 9:45 a.m. or after 12:00 p.m.
All ages, but parents of children under 18 years must grant permission on the registration form

10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Lunch Bag & Card Decoration Decorate paper bags and cards which we use for Feed the Hungry and Monday Meals. All Ages, particularly families with babies and tots.
1:00 p.m. Dolls for Darfur Assemble Dolls for Darfur magnetic pins, which will be sold to raise awareness of the continued atrocities occurring in the Darfur Region of Sudan, Africa. All Ages, particularly families with children JK-2nd grade
1:00 p.m. Friedman Place (home for the blind) Visit with blind residents and play Bingo or other entertaining games. All ages
1:00 p.m. Refu’ah Shleimah Projects – bringing cheer Assemble materials for hospital patients, the New Orleans trip and the Israel trip. Make cards for Temple Sholom congregants who are homebound and others who are ill. All ages, particularly families with children 3rd-6th grade
1:00 p.m. 20's & 30's Building Project Help repair housing structures for people in need. All ages, particularly those in their 20's and 30's
1:00 p.m. Warm Up America Knit or crochet 9” x 7” sections and help assemble these sections into blankets which will be distributed to seniors at a nearby residence. Ages 8 and up
1:15 p.m., meet at the Kenwood Dogs and Congregants visit Senior Residence Bring your dog to visit residents at the Kenwood Home. Dogs should be people friendly and do well with other dogs around. Ages 6 and up
