Makom Presents: A Challah Baking & Cover Dyeing Workshop with Batsarah Press & Diaspora Dinners

Wednesday, April 17, 2024 9 Nisan 5784

6:30 PM - 8:30 PMIn Person at Temple Sholom

Join us for a magical evening of baking, braiding, and natural dyeing with the incredible people behind Bat Sarah Press and Diaspora Dinners!

Together, we will:

  • Learn from the wisdom of Dylan Maysick of Diaspora Dinners on the spiritual significance of preparing and baking challah, a ritual that spans across generations and cultures of the Jewish people.

  • Get hands-on experience making your own challah.

  • Learn from Rachel Ellison of Bat Sarah Press on the process of natural dyeing, and how we can use the gifts of our natural world to beautify our Jewish homes.

  • Try your hand at dyeing your own challah cover!

  • Enjoy light snacks and camaraderie in an intimate, creative experience.

This event is open to all people ages 21-39. The cost of this event is $36/person. This includes a high quality, exclusive workshop experience with two independent, professional Jewish creators, whose skills and talents are informed by years of expertise, talent, and passion. The true cost of this workshop is higher, but we are able to subsidize the cost to bring this workshop to our Makom community.

While we never want finances to be a barrier to participation, we also believe in paying artists and small businesses fairly for their work. We have a limited number of spots for those who need additional financial support in order to attend. Please reach out to Jude Kamler at jude@sholomchicago.org to discuss your options.
