Sunday Scholar Series: How Does One Be Jewish in the 21st Century: Understanding This Question Through Feminism, Equality, and Modernity
Sunday, October 20, 2024 • 18 Tishrei 5785
9:30 AM - 10:30 AMZoomIn the last century, questions around feminism, equality, and modernity led Jews to ask: how does one be Jewish in the 20th and 21st centuries? In an attempt to bridge Judaism with their values, Jews have reshaped what Judaism means and looks like today. The last century has seen shifts in Jewish ritual, theology, and community. In this session, we will look at the question of a changing Judaism through the lens of gender. How have feminists grappled with Judaism, as they’ve sought to align their Jewish traditions with their values? In other words, how have gender-based values led to shifts in Jewish thinking and practice? And what can these changes teach us about Judaism and our values more broadly? In this session, we will play around with these questions, as we think about what it means to be Jewish in the modern world.
Zoom information will be automatically sent via email upon registration.
