This panel features Rabbi Barry Block and Chicago contributors Rabbi Shoshanah Conover, Rabbi Seth Limmer, and Rabbi Andrea London.

What does the Torah have to say about social justice? As the contributors to The Social Justice Torah Commentary demonstrate, a great deal. A diverse group of authors delve into each week's parashah, drawing lessons to inspire tikkun olam. Chapters address key contemporary issues such as racism, climate change, mass incarceration, immigration, disability, women's rights, and voting rights. The result is an indispensable resource for weekly Torah study and for anyone committed to repairing the world.

Rabbi Conover and other local rabbis who have contributed to The Social Justice Torah Commentary will hold a panel on March 10, where you can learn more about this inspiring book. Rabbi Conover authored the chapter “Chukat—A Lesson in Trauma-Informed Care.”

Vaccination

Temple Sholom requires those eligible* to be fully vaccinated** and to show proof of full vaccination upon entering the building. We ask that you please come prepared to show proof of vaccination every time you enter the temple.

Those who are not fully vaccinated or who are not yet two weeks post full vaccination must present a negative PCR Test taken within seventy-two (72) hours of entry into Temple Sholom.

Proof of vaccination may be shown the following ways:

Show the Physical Vaccination Card
Show a Picture or Scanned Image of the Vaccination Card

* As of January 1, 2022, those who are five (5) years of age and older are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (About COVID-19 Vaccines | CDC).

** For purposes of Temple Sholom’s Health & Safety Protocols, individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the original COVID-19 vaccination shot(s) AND any COVID-19 booster vaccination shot(s) for which they are eligible. In October 2021, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the list of those eligible for an additional dose of any of the three COVID-19 vaccines (FDA Takes Additional Action on Use of Booster Dose for COVID-19 Vaccines) and in December 2021, the FDA further expanded eligibility for an additional dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech booster vaccine for 16 – and 17-Year-Olds (FDA Expands Eligibility Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Booster). Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently recommends that everyone over the age of sixteen (16) get a booster shot when eligible (COVID-19 Vaccines | CDC).

Masks & Social Distancing

Masks are required inside Temple Sholom at all times for everyone ages two (2) and older, regardless of vaccination status. We also ask that you wear a mask when joining us for outdoor programs.
Those coming to a service, class, program or appointment at Temple Sholom are required to use a KF94/KN95/N95 mask or equivalent (i.e., double-masking). Masks should not have vents or valves and must always cover the nose and mouth. Masks are available at the front desk in Stratford Lobby upon request.
Please have your mask on prior to entering the building and have your Proof of Vaccination or negative COVID-19 PCR Test result ready to present to staff.
Please maintain social distancing, keeping six feet between individuals or family groups.

Individual Health and Safety

For your health & safety and the health & safety of our community, if you do not feel well, are experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, we request that you do not attend in-person services or on-site programming.

And we continue to ask that congregants and guests do not come to in-person services or on-site programming if you have experienced any of the following symptoms within seventy-two (72) hours of an in-person/on-site service or program:
- Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher
- New or worsening cough
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Chills
- Muscle pain
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Loss of taste or smell within the previous fourteen (14) day

It is understandable that members and guests want to greet each other, the clergy and staff with a hug or a handshake. For the health and safety of the entire community, please limit physical contact to those in your household and family.
Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building.
No food or drink are permitted at services or other programming. Food items for Oneg will remain individually packaged and will be “grab-and-go” for eating at home.
