Book of Remembrance
The High Holy Days enable us to celebrate the new year but are also a time to reflect and remember. One of the ways we remember is by memorializing departed family members and loved ones in the Book of Remembrance. This book provides a special way for family and loved ones to be memorialized each year through an act of tzedakah, the Jewish tradition of charity. The book is created every year to hold the names of family and friends and will be available online as part of the High Holy Day Handbook or you will have an option to receive a copy by mail.
If you would like to include the name of a family member(s) or friend(s) name in the Book of Remembrance this year, please complete the online form towards the bottom of this page along with your special gift. You may also download the printable version of the form and mail it back to Temple Sholom (attn: BOR/Patrick) by
Monday, August 12, 2024.
Another way to remember a loved one is with a Yahrzeit Plaque. Plaques are inscribed with your loved one’s name, hung on the walls surrounding Temple Sholom’s sanctuary, and illuminated both at the time of a yahrzeit and when Yizkor is observed. A name may be inscribed on a memorial plaque with a gift of $1,000 or more.
If you have any concerns regarding financial aspects of purchasing a Yahrzeit Plaque,
please know that we are available to assist and will work with you to design a payment plan.
To purchase a plaque, please contact Lori Curtis at 773-435-1531 or at lori@sholomchicago.org.
As a reminder, Yizkor will be observed on the following dates in the coming year:
Yom Kippur Day – Saturday, October 12, 2024
Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah – Thursday, October 24, 2024
Seventh Day of Pesach – Saturday, April 19, 2025
Shavuot – Monday, June 2, 2025
