Jewish practice has changed rapidly in the last few decades, especially in regard to the role of women and women’s experience. In these classes, we explore how the rise of feminism in the 1970s impacted Jewish women and Jewish men and reshaped Judaism intellectually, ritually, and socially. Our focus will be on the more liberal movements of Judaism with some attention to Orthodoxy as well. Dr. Claire E. Sufrin is a scholar of religion focusing on modern Jewish thought. Dr. Sufrin is the co-editor of The New Jewish Canon (Academic Studies Press, 2020).
