In the Family Way, set in 1965, is a story about the friendship between a group of suburban housewives in Akron, Ohio, and an unwed pregnant 15- year- old who must all rely on each other as they attempt to navigate their way through their personal struggles, relationship issues, and pregnancies (both wanted and unwanted) during the years when the women’s movement had not yet taken flight and abortion was both dangerous and illegal.
Narrated by three different characters, two of whom are Jewish, the book resonates with women of all ages who want to explore the issues of what it means to be a woman, wife, and mother; reproductive freedom; and the quiet and not so quiet ways women judge, support, and shape one another.
We encourage you to read the book in advance. Bring your books if you would like Laney to sign them.
