Why Should You Become a Member?

Becoming a member of Temple Sholom means joining a community that embraces, inspires, and matters and who share a commitment to Judaism, social justice, and lifelong learning.

As a member, you will have access to a wide range of programs, events, and services designed to deepen your Jewish identity and enrich your spiritual journey. You will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with like-minded individuals and families and contribute to our collective efforts to make a positive impact on the world. By joining us, you will become part of a community that cares for one another, supports each other through life's challenges, and celebrates together in times of joy. Membership Options

+ Individual (one person)


Temple Sholom warmly welcomes individuals to become part of our vibrant and inclusive community. Choosing the Individual membership opens the door to a world of personal growth, connection, and spiritual enrichment.

As an individual member, you'll have the opportunity to engage deeply with our vibrant Jewish community, where you'll find a welcoming and inclusive space to explore your Jewish identity. Enjoy access to a diverse range of programs and events tailored to your interests, including engaging lectures, thought-provoking discussions, and dynamic workshops. Expand your knowledge and understanding of Jewish traditions, history, and culture through our lifelong learning opportunities, where you can delve into ancient teachings and contemporary Jewish issues. Additionally, your membership provides access to a range of services to support your spiritual and personal journey.

Our dedicated clergy and staff are here to provide guidance, counseling, and officiate at lifecycle events, ensuring that you feel supported and connected throughout all stages of life.

Individual (Ages 36 & Up): $2,085 - 10 monthly payments of $208.50

Makom (Ages 35 & Under): $432 - 12 monthly payments of $36

Makom means "place of connection" in Hebrew.

As one of Temple Sholom's community groups, Makom creates a place of connection for spiritual seekers, cultural Jews, people who are Jew-ish and/or new to Judaism, and brings together individuals and couples in their 20's & 30's. Temple Sholom is proud to offer accessible and affordable membership options to individuals 35 & under through our special Makom rate. For more information on Makom, visit our webpage.

To continuously uphold the safety and security of our community, we have established a recurring annual Security Commitment fee of $95/year for individuals.

+ Family (two or more people)


Temple Sholom warmly welcomes families of all shapes and sizes to become part of our vibrant and inclusive community. Choosing the Family membership opens the door to a world of shared experiences, meaningful connections, and spiritual growth for every member of your family.

Join us for inspiring Shabbat services and joyous holiday celebrations, where your family can connect with Jewish traditions and create lasting memories. Explore our lifelong learning opportunities, where parents and children can learn side by side, strengthening their bond and understanding of Jewish values.

Additionally, your Family membership provides access to a range of services to support your spiritual and personal journey. Our dedicated clergy and staff are here to provide guidance, counseling, and officiate at lifecycle events, ensuring that your family feels supported and connected throughout all stages of life.

Family (Ages 35 & Under): $2,200 - 10 monthly payments of $220

Family (Ages 36 & Up): $3,460 - 10 monthly payments of $346

Family (Gan Shalom): $550

Children under the age of 26 are considered part of their parents' membership. If more than 4 children under the age of 26 are being added to the account, please enter 4 and email additional children's information to Jude Kamler at jude@sholomchicago.org.

We invite all Gan Shalom families to be part of the Temple Sholom community and extend a special Gan Shalom Family Membership for $550 while your child(ren) attends preschool.
If more than 4 Yahrzeits are being added to the account, please enter 4 and email additional Yahrzeit information to Lori Curtis at lori@sholomchicago.org.

While it is our hope that each member will invest generously in building our sacred community, it has been Temple Sholom's long-standing policy to offer membership without regard to one's ability to pay. We are committed to opening our doors to all who wish to join and will extend membership commitment assistance through our confidential application process. To request financial assistance, select "Requesting Financial Adjustment" from the below drop-down.

Temple Sholom is committed to continuing to maintain the highest level of security for our building so those who come to learn, worship, and gather in our space are safe and comfortable. It is our hope that all members of Temple Sholom contribute to our yearly security costs through this annual fee, which goes directly to offsetting our security budget. 
 
Temple Sholom's Annual Fund supports religious philanthropic, educational, and building projects. Your support  is appreciated and incredibly valuable to our community.

On July 1, the new membership year for 2024-25 will begin. Joining now will include membership for the 2024-25 year, as well as the remaining months until the end of this year's cycle on June 30, 2024.
